Nizwa was the capital of Oman in the 6th and 7th centuries AD. It was a center of trade, religion, education and art. Today it remains one of the most popular tourist attractions with its historical buildings and imposing fort built in the mid-17th century.
Green Mountain (Jebel Akhdar) is embedded within al Hajar Mountains which are highest range in the Eastern Arabian Peninsula. It stand at a height of 2000m above sea level and due to the cool climes Jebel Al Akhdar is famous for its Fruit Orchards including peaches, apricots, figs, grapes, apples, pears, plums, almonds, and walnuts, laid out in a step farming or terrace plantation style along the slopes of mountains.

This wonderful journey starts by picking you up from your hotel and depart early from Muscat heading towards the al Dakhiliyah region. On the way we can make photo short stops upon your wish. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the charming ancestral village of BIRKAT AL MAWZ at the bottom of the Green Mountain which is an enchanting and mysterious abandoned town constructed in the 17th century. The village is home to the ancient Aflaj irrigation system which is labelled as UNESCO World heritage. We can enjoy a pleasant walk through the oasis and the date plantations and take the best photos.
Then we will head to the precious historic center of Nizwa to see the Nizwa Fortress, which offers splendid views of this ancient town and the surrounding mountains. One can walk around in this impressive fortress and visit its many rooms, passages and famed 40m-tall round tower with 360-degree cannon view. you can also take a walk around the souk market ‘Nizwa Souq’ where the local vendors offers home locally crafted goods such as pottery, jewelry, handicrafts and souvenirs.
At the mid-day we follow a winding road over a stretch of 36km that leads us up the mountainside up to Jebel Akhdar. Once we get to the top we will have a break for lunch in a local restaurant. Then we will visit the villages and walk through a spectacular landscape of dramatic peaks and take the best photos for the Gorges and Wades. At the end of the day, once every one get satisfied with this journey we head back to Muscat.
